This historic country house, built around the end of the 19thC for a philanthropic politician and subsequently owned by a famous Spanish singer, is in need of complete transformation into a magnificent family home plus any number of en-suite bedrooms to create a luxurious B & B or small hotel.
There are approximately 1.500 m2 built and the house sits in 10.000 m2 of level terraced land planted to fruit trees, oaks and a variety of tropical palms.

The house itself is in habitable condition but needs attention to bring it up to date. There could be four double bedrooms, all of which could have bathrooms and balconies or access to a beautiful wide terrace overlooking the gardens, a vast lounge with wood-burning stove and a large separate kitchen, which is currently partially built.
Outside there is a large shaded porch typical of this type of nobleman’s house.
The rest of the property needs complete renovation. It consists of a large building which would convert into an accommodation block with (say) ten bedrooms and bathrooms, various outbuildings which could be converted into, for example, a dining room, stores etc. plus stabling for approximately 14 horses with direct access both to the central patio and directly out to the land. The present owner has started work on what she intended as Arab baths beneath a vast terrace over the new kitchen with views out across the Sierra Lujar.
The house was designed and built by a German engineer who came to Spain to build iron bridges. He became friends with the original owner and built the house for him. For this reason the style is totally untypical of the Alpujarra and has a basic structure of steel with thick walls made of brick but with cavities for insulation.
The ceilings are high at almost 4 metres but despite this the house is easily kept warm in winter and cool in summer because of the unusual construction. The coat of arms of the original owner can still be seen on the wall above the principal entrance.
The present owners have started along the road to renovation and various structures have been built which would serve the new proprietors well. Also there is a great deal of building and carpentry materials on site such as doors, windows, window frames, roof tiles etc.
The attractive grounds abound with palm trees and fruits such as oranges, lemons, mandarins, figs, plums and grapes. The whole plot is irrigated via an automatic system fed by an 80.000 litre water storage tank.
The property does not have a swimming pool but does have a second water storage tank at below ground level which would easily convert into a pool once tiled and with the necessary pumping and filtering devices installed.
Access is by asphalt road which borders the property. This is a minor road used only by residents as it dies approximately 3 kms away.
Services
Mains water and electricity are installed and the property has entitlement to 5 hours of water each week from a fast flowing acequia. This is vastly more than is needed to irrigate all of the land.
Location
The property is approximately one kilometre from Orgiva with all services available. The historic city of Granada is only 45 minutes away and Malaga, with its airport, is currently 90 minutes, although this will decrease to 75 minutes once the short stretch of motorway between Lobres and Taramay is finished.
special note
for anyone wanting more land, for example grazing for horses, there is a further 35.000 m2 of abandoned land available adjoining the property. This would be for separate negotiation with a second owner.
