The City of Alicante is just 45 minutes by car and has a lovely marina and port area and the spectacularly tiled Esplanada, favoured in the afternoons by the locals who sit and watch the people pass by. Take the elevator to see the 360 degree view from the Santa Barbara castle which is wonderfully lit at night or visit the Museo Arqueologico Provincial for a very visual and high tech experience, fascinating, fun and educational all at once. Just 5-10 minutes drive away from Altea Hills is Calpe, a former fishing village, with about 13,000 inhabitants and known for its rock called the Penon de lfach. This massive rock inspires people from everywhere to come and enjoy the nearly perfect view around the bays and the Costa Blanca. The town’s two main beaches, the cantal roig and the playa arenal are widely known for their fine sand. There is a large variety of shops and eating establishment catering for all tastes. The two churches of Calpe are certainly worth a visit.
